Fashionably Conscious

So after sitting here at my computer for the last week or so I have had the same question going through my head what to blog about now? I have had my internet shopping rant and there is not much else I can think of, I like a good rant but maybe not a good idea to follow a rant with another.

With this in mind I have been contemplating what to write about. When listening to FBI I heard about a Sydney designer, Rachel Cassar,
http://www.rachaelcassar.com. She is an eco friendly designer who has had a lifelong passion for designing.

She has been able to use mostly recycled items and is a self obsessed deconstruction recycler, where she will take a pre-loved item and pull it apart to them re-construct the garment into another item. This process of sustainable design is a counter action towards the harmful effects of the fashion industry on the environment.
There is a large movement towards Australian eco-designing with Cassar participating in 3 eco-parades in Melbourne and 1 eco-parade in Sydney. With this growth in the industry there will soon be a push for the clothing to be priced at a lower cost, while there will also be the worry of company’s seen the popularity of calling an item ‘eco-designed’ while it will have been produced in a factory. Even with the increased popularity in the clothing and ‘eco-design’ industry it is hard to find a store that will stock this style of clothing.

With this step forward in the eco-design industry it will hopefully open Australia up to other major advances in the fashion world such as Fab Cell a garment still in product, as it requires a large electrical current running through it. What it does is with the heat of your body and the electrical current the clothing will change colour and stay that colour till body temp changes.

Hopefully one day Australia can lead the way in the fashion industry.

Cassar’s newest line is Ruby will be on offer soon, straight off the catwalks.

Byl xx
